Hello! My name is Dr. Bonsall. I am Instructor of Political Science at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

I hold a PhD in Politics (Foreign Affairs) from the University of Virginia, an MA in Political Science from Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, and a BSc in Government and History from the London School of Economics (LSE).

My research explores the intersection of democratic transition legacies and globalization in shaping populist movements. My book project argues that the formation of different cultural and institutional legacies during democratic transitions affects the way that the contemporary far-right appeal to voters. This work draws on political memories of dictatorship and democratization in Spain, Portugal, and Argentina, formed from a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods, including fieldwork in Portugal.

I am also interested in research surrounding the links between politics and popular culture, as well as the economic determinants of the success of the populist far-right, particularly in Iberian politics.

I have teaching experience within Political Science (Comparative Politics and International Relations), Women and Gender Studies, and English. My courses range from intro level courses at the undergraduate level to graduate seminars on topics such as populism, globalization and political economy, gender and global politics, conflict resolution, and party politics.

You can email me here and find me on Bluesky.
